Playing tennis in the park is an accessible and enjoyable way to have fun, exercise and meet people, whatever your age or playing ability. The tennis courts at Hayling Island Community Centre are available all year round.
Havant Borough Council (HBC) in partnership with Hayling Island Community Centre Association (HICCA) and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has implemented a booking and access system at the Hayling island recreation ground tennis courts. Users will be able to book and secure their court time, initially users can book their time for free! You can now book here
It has been highlighted by research that the public as a whole are not satisfied with the condition of public courts and there availability to book online. Therefore, in partnership with the LTA we are looking to improve our offer for users, we are; repairing damaged areas of the courts, repainting the courts, replacing and re-tensioning the parameter fence line wires and finally installing a locking gate with access technology.Following these improvement works, users who wish to access the courts will be able to utilise the same booking system to book court time. The cost for a court will be £7 per hour per court or alternatively pay a one off yearly price of £35 per household. There are also a number of access options, from tennis coaching to special events.
HICCA will be administering the booking process.Works to the courts are planned for Spring 2017, until then the courts will remain free to use, however, users will need to book their time on court and can do so here.
This is a new and innovative way to manage open access tennis courts, offering sustainable and high quality courts available for residents of Hayling Island!
Get Wimbledon ready at local open day
Wimbledon is fast approaching so the new and improved Hayling Island tennis courts are having an open day. The day will include free coaching sessions from Ace Tennis Academy, a chance to hear about what is on offer at the courts and to enter a free prize draw. Partnership work between Havant Borough Council and the Lawn Tennis Association has funded the refurbishment of the courts; which included resurfacing, new court markings and a new entry and booking system. Changes in the way these courts are managed will ensure good quality and sustainable tennis facilities. Annual membership costs just £35; alternatively courts can be hired for £7 an hour. The open day’s free prize draw will give all who sign-up on the day for annual membership the chance to win a £50 shopping voucher. Staff will be on site during the event to answer any queries you might have and to showcase the new booking system. The event will be held on 1 July between 10am-2pm at the Hayling Island tennis courts, Station Road, Hayling Island, PO11 0HB. Refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome. The tennis courts will be managed by the Hayling Island Community Centre Association (HICCA). Councillor Leah Turner, Cabinet Lead for Communities and Housing, said: “We are very pleased that together with the Lawn Tennis Association we have been able to refurbish the tennis courts in Hayling Park. “We hope to continue the court refurbishments across Havant borough and expect the courts to be well used – particularly in the wonderful weather we are having.”
