Volunteers

Our Community Centre reception area is staffed, in the main, by a fantastic team of volunteer stewards, which enables the Centre to be open most days between 9am - 10pm.

We are always in need of volunteers who could spare a couple of hours where possible, and would love to hear from any one who may be interested in helping us at the Centre.

Our volunteering schedule is designed to slot into your lifestyle and there are shifts to suit everyone. Shifts cover weekdays, weekday evenings and weekends and are usually 2-3 hours. Whether you can commit to a regular shift on a weekly or fortnightly basis, you’ll find a welcoming team and a role that fits seamlessly into your schedule.

Very briefly, a steward's task is to keep the Centre running smoothly during their duty period. The more routine aspects of the job are summarised below:

• Be present at the Centre over the duty period.
• Provide information about the Centre, its facilities and activities, forthcoming events etc to visitors or telephone enquirers.
• Issue receipts and record takings.
• Sell sweets, soft drinks etc from the snack bar and use appropriate till. Make tea and coffee in small quantities.

We are looking for friendly people with plenty of common sense to join our team, and will promise you a warm welcome. Training and supervision will be provided until such time as you are happy and confident to be working alone.

More Than Just Volunteering—A Great Way to Connect!

Beyond knowing you’re making a real difference to local life, joining our volunteer family comes with plenty of perks! Our reception stewards enjoy regular informal coffee mornings packed with delicious cakes, lively chat, and new friendships. We also organise group coach trips and outings, and throw a special annual Thank-You event to celebrate everything our stewards, trustees, and committee members do for Hayling Island.
