Centre News – Edition 301
We would like to thank Vanessa James and her team of volunteers who held a Jumble Sale on Saturday 16th October to raise funds for the ‘Save our Centre Campaign’. They raised £188.00 selling goods donated by our lovely Islanders. Thank you to you all. Events like this helps to bring our current total to £52,552 getting us ever nearer to our £60,000 target. Every penny helps.
We would like to thank Dawn Jacobs, who has been running her Callisthenics exercise class here at the Centre for many years, has kindly offered to run a fundraising session with money going towards our ‘Save our Centre’ campaign. This class, will be held on Thursday 11th November from midday to 1pm and is open to past and present members of her class and to anyone else who would like to come and participate.
Havant Borough Council wants to work with local residents, businesses and a range of other key stakeholders to develop and deliver exciting plans to enhance the seafront and create an inspiring destination. Please come and view the exhibitions on Thursday 11th 2pm to 5.30pm and Saturday 13th November 10am to 1pm. ‘The Regatta’ is a play and has been specially written by Sue Bannister for the Mayor of Havant appeal. Please come along on Friday 12th at 7pm and support the appeal while watching an excellent fun play. £7 adults and £3 for children, tickets can be purchased from reception.
The HI Businessmen’s Club will be running their popular Pig Race Night on Saturday 13thwith doors opening at 6.45pm. This is a family event so please come along and enjoy a little flutter on the pigs. Tickets are £10 and £5 for children under 12, this includes supper and a race card.
Hayling u3a group will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday 18th October at 2pm with a talk by John Pitman entitled ‘My Life on the Stage’. John is a public speaker who has had a life time in drama and is an author. He talks from a lifetime of experience. He aims to give his audience a good time with a laugh or two.
Hannah Chen will be running two more cookery classes, on Friday 19th November and Friday 3rd December 6pm to 8pm. Hannah will teach you how to make Bao zi (Bao Buns or stuffed steam buns) delicious with many varieties of fillings. ALL COOKING INGREDIENTS ARE INCLUDED for the price of £25.00. The class can only accommodate 10 people at each session, so booking will be on a first come first served basis. Hampshire Constabulary are holding their monthly Beat Surgery on Thursday 25th from 6pm to 7.15pm. This is a drop in surgery, please do come along to discuss any concerns you have with PCSO Tom Presdee and PCSO Becky Hodson.
Crafty Fair are running their first Christmas Fair at the Centre on the Sunday 28th November from 1pm to 4pm. Come along and check out all the handmade gifts, perfect for birthdays, special occasions and Christmas! Seller’s tables are fully booked but please do come and have a browse for that special gift. There will be live demos on the stage by Hannah Chen cooking Chinese dumplings, Bounce Fitness and Hayling Dance Academy will performing.
The HI Community Food Pantry, based in the Library are planning ahead for the Christmas period, and would be really grateful for any donations of food, sweets and treats, toiletries or new toys if at all possible please. You can drop to the food pantry at the library, or to the community centre reception, or we can collect. Thank you.
Bookings are open to see ‘Cinderella’ at the Mayflower Theatre on Monday 13th December. We currently have 16 seats available. The coach will depart from the road outside the Centre at 5.30pm for a 7pm performance. A strictly magical cast has been announced with Craig Revel Horwood, Debbie McGee with Richard Cadell & Sooty. Cost is £60 per person inc coach. Please book in the office.

Hayling Island Baptist Church is holding "Carols by Candlelight" on Sunday 12th December, Doors open at 6pm for start at 6.30pm.
We are excited to announce that the Centre will be holding a Senior’s Christmas Tea Party on Thursday 2nd December. Details to follow.
The Emsworth Concert Band will be performing a fabulous Christmas Concert on Saturday 4thDecember starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale in Reception for £8 (under 16’s free with paying adult) or book/pay online at www.eventbrite.co.uk .
The tennis courts at Hayling Island Community Centre are available all year round.
We are able to offer a socially distanced hall that seats 30 people comfortably. This amount will rise as the lockdown eases.
Thought of becoming a volunteer? Help the centre and community and only give as much time as you can.
We keep items for three months before giving them to charity. If you have lost anything please call in.
